HISTORY

Unlike most worlds, the planet Grenda in Space Sector 3009 dominant lifeform is not biological, but mechanical. Stel of Grenda was selected as the sector’s Green Lantern and was one of many Green Lanterns trained by Green Lantern Sinestro of Korugar.

- Green Lantern: Rebirth #5

Stel has a long and distinguished career. He first met Hal Jordan during an interstellar Green Lantern conference on Yquem. The assembled Green Lanterns fought the menace of Sinestro, by now a renegade Green Lantern. As one of the Corps, Stel helped apprehend a group of cosmic criminals that had escaped captivity on the Guardians' Prison Planet. While free, the criminals launched an attempt to destroy the Corps. Davo Yull and Chogar of Tyrea were among the thirteen Green Lanterns killed by their plan. - Green Lantern Vol. 2 # 11, 55

Stel, before destruction at the hands of Krona

When the universe was threatened by the near-omnipotent Agamemno, Stel was one of the thousands of Green Lanterns that fought to recover the Central Power Battery. Years later, during the Power War, Stel was one of the Corps who attempted to rid Oa of the invading Weaponers of Qward and free the Guardians of the Universe. - Silver Age: Justice League of America #1, - Green Lantern Vol. 2 # 127,

Stel served in the war with Krona and Nekron, Lord of the Unliving. The Green Lantern Corps divided to find Krona's forces. Arcing out of warp in the Andromeda system, Stel had been attacked by the renegade Guardian. Krona inflicted major damage on Stel, the battle was brief but savage. Stel had been torn to pieces when his fellow Green Lanterns found him. His dying words gave the Green Lantern Corps a clue that would help save the universe. Hal Jordan gathered Stel's remains in a power ring created sarcophagus - Tales of the Green Lantern Corps #1 - 3

Stel’s body was returned to Grenda, to a hero's funeral. During the ceremony, Grenda's enemies the Krydos took the opportunity to attack. The sector's Green Lantern responded to the threat but was himself attacked by Yron, a Grendan who thought Stel a failure. Yron convinced the Guardians he was more worthy of the power ring and could better defend Grenda. - Green Lantern Vol. 2 # 182

Yron proved to be disastrous as a Green Lantern. Though his intentions were just, his pride caused his downfall. As Yron was dying, he realized his mistakes. He realized Stel was the only hope for Grenda. Yron died at the base of Stel's tomb. His final thoughts coalesced into a last surge of willpower. In a manner which can not be fully understood, Stel was reborn. Stel quickly defeated the Krydos, Grenda's spirits were lifted by his return. The Grendans praised Stel while denouncing Yron. Stel would hear none of it. Stel regarded Yron as a savior of Grenda, for fighting when others fled.

Stel went on to serve the Corps during the so-called Crisis on Infinite Earths. His adventures in the Crisis have yet to be recorded. - Green Lantern Vol. 2 # 182 -- 183, 200 - 201

At some point Stel crossed paths with the Green Lantern killer known as Fatality and was defeated. Stel’s head was taken as a trophy. Though the existence of an afterlife for mechanical lifeforms has not been confirmed, Stel was one of many late Green Lanterns that appeared before Hal Jordan during his tenure as the Spectre. - Green Lantern Vol. 3 # 112, Day of Judgment #4, The SPECTRE 4th series # 16

Evidentially, Stel was salvaged from Fatality’s trophy room and restored as a Green Lantern in the recent reformation of the Green Lantern Corps. Initially, Stel was one of the trainers and some some poit formed a partnership with the Green Man AKA the Green Lantern of Uxor. Though the Green Man served Sector 2828, and Green Man’s partner Gretti was never around, the status of Stel’s partner in Sector 3009 has yet to be revealed. - Green Lantern Corps: Recharge #1

Following Earth Green Lanterns Kyle Rayner and Guy Gardner into Space Sector 2828, Stel and the Green Man stopped short of entering the forbidden Vega system. The Lanterns uncovered the machinations of the Spider Guild which precipitated a brutal invasion of Oa.

Stel also took part in the “thin green line” of Green Lanterns that tried to hold back the rampaging Superboy-Prime. The Corps lost thirty-two Lanterns that day, but were able to slow Superboy-Prime long enough to give Superman, and the pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths’ “Earth-Two” Superman a chance to overcome their more powerful doppelganger. Superboy-Prime was defeated on Mogo, and taken to Oa as a prisoner. - Infinite Crisis #7

POWERS AND WEAPONS
