HISTORY
Olapet was a memeber of the Green Lantern Corps of the Klyminade, a division of the larger Green Lantern Corps formed shortly after the departure of the Guardians of the Universe from our plane of existence.
A plant lifeform, Olapet kept the seed that would become her daughter in a small sack, looped by rope around her body. At the end of her life cycle, when Olapet wilted away, she would pass the ring of power to her daughter, formed as a younger version of herself. The new Olapet would emerge from the sack to take the power ring. She would remove a seed from the top of her mother's body and place that in the sack until the next Olapet was born. So far, there have been twenty three Olapets. Knowledge is passed from mother to daughter, but if this is a function of the ring or a natural occurance in Olapet's race is not known.
The Green Lantern Corps of the Klyminade was soon ruthlessly attacked by Sinestro and his ally the sentient Sector 3600. Of the eight member Corps, six were killed. Olapet and Flodo Span of Inner Tasnia survived. The two appeared to have a close relationship. Driq of Criq was killed, but in an unprecedented event, his lifeforce was retained by his power ring.
The survivors set out to warn Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps of Earth. Shortly after meeting members of the Earth's Green Lantern Corps, they were attacked once more by Sinestro and Sector 3600.
They seemed to have gained a small victory in their combined battle against Sinestro. The sentient sector had sent the Green Lanterns across the cosmos where they found a world on which Kilowog could rebuild for his people from Bolovax Vik. Kilowog's homeworld had been destroyed in the Crisis, and his power ring had absorbed the "souls" of the sixteen billion inhabitants. Though he freed his people from the power ring, he could do nothing when Sinestro renewed his attack. The planet was destroyed beneath their feet. The people of Bolovax Vik died a second time, and Kilowog's ring could not bring them back again.
The loss was too great for Kilowog. In an insane rage he struck out at anything and everything around him. He had no idea his comrades were near, he was too consumed by his grief. Kilowog struck John Stewart, who was helping to defend the Green Lanterns from Sinestro and the Sector's attack. Debris from the destroyed world got past the emerald forcefields, striking the newly emerging Olapet. Olapet's ring was still on the wilted, dead plant and could not save the new sprout. The new Olapet died instantly.
John Stewart pulled the seed from the wilted Olapet and placed it in the sack. He would guard the seed while it germinated. As Sinestro pressed his attack, Arisia entered Kilowog's mind to help stabilize her friend. Through the actions of Flodo Span and Driq, the sentient Sector 3600 was compressed into a dark sphere. Without his invincible ally, Sinestro was easily defeated.
The new Olapet had sprouted during the battle and seemed to have no difficulties. She would no longer have a continuous presence. Each time she wilted there would be a hiatus until the new seed grew. She would survive.
Olapet and Flodo Span were briefly reunited with Driq on Oa. The trial and execution of Sinestro led to the collapse of the Central Power Battery. Soon, virtually all the power rings in existence were destroyed. With the loss of his power ring, Driq crumbled to dust. Flodo Span assisted Hal Jordan in trying to save the collapsing power battery, but he was dissipated into the void after his ring disintegrated. Though Jordan had averted a universe-devouring black hole from forming, he could not undo the damage done to the Central Power Battery. The Green Lantern Corps disbanded. Olapet's current activities are unknown.
Olapet was most recently seen with the majority of the Green Lantern Corps under the thrall of Krona. -Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #8

GLCWP NOTE
Designwise, the aliens in the GLC of the Klyminade were radically different than other GLs. Olapet could have had a interesting back story regarding her previous lives. I wonder how similar her story would have been to Green Lantern Adam? Upon Olapet's death, her power ring would search for the most worthy successor, what if the most worthy successor *wasn't* Olapet? I would have liked to seen this explored more.
I picture the inhabitants of her homeworld as floating through the skies, perhaps Olapet's round body was an air-sac that allowed her to float while the lower fronds could grasp things (possibly food) below.
