HISTORY

Following the death of Stel of Grenda, the Guardians of the Universe selected a successor as Green Lantern of Space Sector 3009. When the Krydos sought to destroy Grenda, the Green Lantern of Space Sector 3009 intervened. The alien Lantern found himself under attack by one of the very beings he was sent to protect. Yron of Grenda believed Stel had been worthless against the Krydos, and was angered by the fact that the Guardians chose an off-worlder as the new Green Lantern. Yron attacked the Green Lantern. He ordered the alien Lantern to take him to Oa. Once there, Yron protested to the Guardians for a power ring to fight off Krydos attacks on Grenda. In response to the danger on Grenda, the Guardians granted Yron a power ring.

Yron’s ego was his own undoing as the Krydos brought corrosive bombs to use on Grenda. The first robot they used it on was Yron. With the Green Lantern defeated, the Krydos mercilessly attacked the Grendans. As Yron was dying, he realized his errors. His last thoughts coalesced into a last surge of willpower. In a manner which cannot be understood, Stel was reborn. Stel quickly defeated the Krydos. While the Grendans denounced Yron, Stel thought of Yron as a hero.

It is not known if the Green Lantern of Sector 3009 continued his service in the Green Lantern Corps. The universe would soon be plunged into the so-called Crisis on Infinite Earths and after that event the Corps was dissolved for a time. Stel was one of many former Lanterns to fall victim to the bounty hunter Fatality, and it is possible this unnamed Green Lantern of Sector 3009 was also killed. The Corps saw a brief return before fading from the stars once more.

Years later, the Green Lantern Corps was reborn following the return of Hal Jordan and the defeat of Parallax. The Corps now 7200 strong, each Lantern shared a sector with another Lantern. Stel of Grenda had also been restored, but was often found partnered with the Green Man of Uxor from sector 2828. The Green Man had grown frustrated with his partner Gretti, a “space gypsy” who roamed from sector to sector. As of this writing, the current status of Stel’s “successor” or possible partner in Space Sector 3009 has yet to be revealed.
