HISTORY

On board the spaceport Waystation in the Daffath system, the halfway point between two points in the sector, Judge Sool was the law in his corner of the galaxy. Miners working the debris belt over Daffath frequented Waystation and many regulations were required to keep order. The officers of Judge Sool's court, a robotic security force, helped keep Waystation from descending into chaos.

When a brawl erupted on Waystation, security forces were quick to apprehend the combatants. Garl Rathbone, a miner working the Daffath debris belt; Hammeroon, a bounty hunter; and a Green Lantern from Earth, Kyle Rayner; were brought to Sool's court for judgment.

Sool did not recognize Rayner's position as a Green Lantern, since the Green Lantern Corps had been disbanded he regarded Rayner's position as irrelevant. The Green Lantern from Earth had no jurisdiction on Waystation. Judge Sool sentenced Rayner, Hammeroon and Rathbone to Roundaway, a prison ship that circled the Bri'r Nine system on the outer spiral.

The proceedings were disrupted by a comrade of the threesome, Anya Savenlovich. The Soviet cosmonaut had not been involved in the brawl and therefore had not been arrested with her friends. Savenlovich bluffed the court, claiming a piece of heating equipment from Hammeroon's starship was a bomb. The distraction gave the prisoners the moments needed to retake their weapons. Wielding his power ring, Rayner was able to cut through the decks of Waystation and lead his friends in an escape. Humiliated and intensely angered, Judge Sool vowed to bring all four to justice. - Green Lantern: The New Corps #1

Tracking the fugitives through Hammeroon's creditline, Sool caught up with the foursome as they sought refuge in a Samaritan House on the third moon of B'llth Nine. Judge Sool's massive starship, the Lawbringer overshadowed the Samaritan House. Dozens of armed robots flanked the fugitives' position while an armored Judge Sool confronted Rayner.

Before hostilities could break out, an energy wave of unprecedented proportions swept over their position, destroying everything it came in contact with. Working fast, Rayner shielded the area as best he could. In seconds, all that remained was Judge Sool, the fugitives, the Samaritan House and some of the moon it was built on.

Inside the Samaritan House, Sool declared the foursome under arrest. This angered Hammeroon, causing a brief scuffle which was quickly broken up by Garl Rathbone. Despite any animosities between themselves, all present could agree on finding the cause of the destructive anomaly. To assist him in this quest, Rayner gave each of the four their own power rings and batteries. Each recited their own oath while charging their rings. They would be Green Lanterns.

Nearing the center of the anomaly, this new Corps came under fire which quickly changed to the yellow spectrum. Their attackers knew they were facing Green Lanterns. Though facing superior numbers, the Green Lanterns defeated their attackers, but there would be many more to face. Their attackers were the Van'n, and Rayner had naively given a power ring to the Van'n chieftain, Magaan.

Magaan had used the power ring to create the second Van'n Imperium, a force with which he planned to raze the galaxy of life. The Green Lanterns would have to face Magaan and his millions upon millions of soldiers of the Van'n homeworld.

Rayner would face Magaan himself while the four other Green Lanterns searched the planet for a strongpoint which would indicate a control center. When they came upon a turret which was firing upon Van'n fighters instead of them, Sool believed they were waking into a trap. They learned Phothus, the brain of the Van'n homeworld, had become self aware and opposed Magaan's plans for intergalactic genocide. To help Phothus gain control of the antimatter wave, the Green Lanters would need to unearth and disconnect an inhibitor device installed by Magaan. Though he had his misgivings about this plan too, Sool helped Anya and Garl free Phothus. Hammeroon defended their position against millions of attacking Van'n. Hammeroon gave his life to buy his friends time to complete their task.

Regrouping with Rayner after the defeat of Magaan, the Green Lanterns learned they had set off a doomsday device. An ion cannon aimed at the planet’s already unstable core threatened to fiery destruction. The Green Lanterns combined their power to shield themselves from the blast.

When all was said and done, Rayner had come to a decision about the Green Lantern Corps. Mindful of the error he had made by granting a power ring to Magaan, Rayner requested the return of the power rings. Rayner would return to Earth. He needed more time and experience before he would be ready to recruit a new Green Lantern Corps. - Green Lantern: The New Corps #2

After taking Magaan back to Roundaway for imprisonment, Sool joined with Garl Rathbone and Anya Savenlovich in creating a new crime fighting organization, known simply as "The Corps."

Recently, the Corps has been joined by three new members. Nothing is known about the pasts of Bekk H'wat and Way, but the third new member, Sinara, is a former smuggler and has supplied the Corps with her own starship as a base of operations. She currently challenges Sool for leadership. - Green Lantern Secret Files #2

Since the Green Lantern Corps has been restored, a number of former ring-wielders have returned as Green Lanterns. As of this writing, only Garl Rathbone of the "New Corps" has been seen. - Infinite Crisis #7

GLCWP NOTE

The Jim Lee cover of Infinite Crisis #7 features a slew of Green Lanterns including Sool and Magaan. Since it seems highly unlikely Magaan would ever be a Lantern again, I'm going to have to consider it an artist's mistake and unfortunately rule out Sool as well for now, at least.
