Comment(s):

The events in this story take place long before the death of Mars and J'onn's coming to Earth.

Synopsis:

J'onn returns to Mars where he finds that most of those captured by the forces of Apokolips have made a recovery, but not his brother, Ma'alefa'ak, who claims his mind is still in pieces. Unbenownst to J'onn and the rest of the people of Mars, Ma'alefa'ak is actually in the employ of Darkseid, instructed to discover the secret of the anti-life equation any way he can.
In time, J'onn and My'ri'ah are married and join themselves to one another, body mind and soul. However, their happiness is spoilt as My'ri'ah's mind is invaded against her will by another; when J'onn meets the other manhunters he discovers that many others are suffering from the heinous crime of mind-rape. His mother Sha'sheen thinks she knows who is behind it - Ma'alefa'ak, but J'onn doesn't want to believe it.
Soon, he is summoned by his fellow manhunters to discover that his mother has been attacked by his brother. After releasing her soul, he pursues and engages his brother, still hoping to cause him to reform. Ma'alefa'ak proves that this is not a possibility, and so when J'onn has demonstrated his superior power, he decides to take his brother back to Mars, knowing that he will be punished by the removal of his memories and his telepathic abilities. On his return, he and My'ri'ah decide to start a family. And, for a time, all is well.
