Synopsis:

Ten years ago, on a boat that was sinking, Maestro Ganini heard the voice of a singer which calmed the panicking passengers. Unbeknownst to him, it was one of the sailors, Manuel Marto. In the present, with the Gotham Opera Company in dire financial straits, Maestro wishes to find that voice to sing in his new production. He accidentally believes the voice to be that of cabbie Doiby Dickles. Angered by his inability to get an audition with the Maestro, Manuel Marto, now a stagehand, tries to get rid of his new found competition.
