Aquaman and Tempest head for the Rhine, where the Thirst's next river spirit target is to be found. Here the encounter the real Valhalla, where warriors battle one another with great enthusiasm, watched over the Rhine Sister, who knows she is safe so long as the Rhinegold is hidden from the eyes of men. Meanwhile, in Atlantis, the sorcerers Tubold and Skuld are killed through Man O' War intervening in their ritual. The Thirst soon arrives at the Rhine, and commands the desiccated Elbe sister to destroy a dam wall at a mining complex, revealing the Rhinegold. The Rhine sister knows her end is at hand and orders her armies to stand down, though not all obey her. And Aquaman, plunged into polluted waters, comes out encrusted with chemical waste.
