HISTORY
When Alexander Graham Bell uttered the first words to ever travel through a telephone line - "Watson. Come here. I need you." - it unleashed forces so great that even the spirit world was affected. In that moment, the Telephone Avatar, a creature of potentially limitless power, was born. Eventually, it was found and exploited by the U.S. government. The Pentagon - in reality a pentagram - was built firmly to trap spirits of the dead, which would be fed to the Avatar to nurture it. The capture of the Telephone Avatar was also the starting-point for the Pentagon's "Unusual Operatives Division", a rogue agency that oversaw the creation of the Men from N.O.W.H.E.R.E., Yankee Doodle, and the Sex Men, among others, and whose main purpose was to erase all things queer an abnormal and eccentric from this world. To reach that goal, the Pentagon's Major Honey kidnapped Flex Mentallo and Dorothy Spinner of the Doom Patrol, with the purpose of using their powers to his own agenda. However, the rest of the Doom Patrol infiltrated the Pentagon and saved the day. Flex Mentallo succeeded in weakening the Telephone Avatar by temporarily making the Pentagon a Circle with his powers, and in its weakened state, the Avatar was no match for Dorothy Spinner, who destroyed it.
