A proposal: We have quite firm data for most of History´s Heroes from Khufu to Jonah Hex and even Sgt. Rock. How about pinpointing the core stories in some kind of timeline?
We should probably refrain from compiling "present day" data which has been in flux since real-1985, at least. Even series with a historical bend like Starman Vol. 2 or Sandman Vol. 2 acknowledged their nineties setting in the most cursory sense only. --FrankFlynn61 17:23, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
I would like to see the resurrection of this part of the Guide in my lifetime... but we'd better step it up, i'm not as young as i used to be....
Working on a Silver Age general sorta graph/timeline/calender in most preliminary stages... most of the chronologies line up, there are a few sticky points as you move out from the core book, tho.
- I agree, this has been a long ignored though important part of the Guide. I'd like to see something different than what we had on older versions of this Guide, as well as different from other sites. Unfortunately, I can't get myself in gear to think of what that would be. The best I've had so far was linked events but that would only be supplements to the overall timeline and therefore falls short of our goal.
- I'll help out wherever I can though. We do have the advantage of a closed universe due to Flashpoint, so "history" has remained stable while we've built up this version of the Guide.--DRMOUSE2814 10 November 2013
- I was just reading some old comics the other day including Marvel Saga and wondered if that might be a way to go that made this history different from what we see on other sites. Maybe combining it with an actual timeline (sort of like what they did in Dark Horse's Star Wars books where you could see where the story fit in the overall Starw Wars timeline) listing the year the story took place for pre-modern age stories in the left side of the screen and then use the middle part to tell the history in a more visual manner using panels from books to help tell the story.
- And focus mainly on the important events in the DC Universe history. For crossovers we could give the broad strokes and link to the crossover page for more info and then mention some of the important events that happened in between crossovers in the major "families" Superman, Batman, Justice League, Green Lantern, Titans etc. as well as any other event that was big enough to earn a place in the history.
- No idea if this would be too much of a task of if anyone would actually find this an interesting project. Maybe we could ask on the board if anyone might be interested in joining in and maybe start things off there where we have more users than on the actual Guide.--Tenzel Kim (talk) 05:23, 23 November 2013 (PST)
What-centric?
When i do a timeline/chronology, i use a book/group as the central "core" to build around.
What do you think should be the core book/s for the post-Crisis history/chronology?
Batman titles, Superman titles? Justice League? Titans?
Any comments or ideas greatly appreciated!! --Zilch
- Batman titles have more stability, in that except for Jason Todd, I cant think of any major inconsistencies of his timeline.
- Superman titles have more history, owing to tales of ancient Krypton or visits with the Legion. Stability varies.
- JLA can be more inclusive as there's a wider range of characters tying into their history... which unfortunately varies due to those very same characters.
- Titans are under-represented on the DCU Guide. Also due to the stretch on the Baxter run, at times divorced from the greater DCU history.
- Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter are not inclusive enough, Wonder Woman and Hawkman have too many continuity changes to deal with.
- How about a number of core books, independent (yes, I know that's more work to do) and interweaving to create an overall history?--DRMOUSE2814 19 November 2013
What's the best way to post an Excel sheet? that's what i'm using for building the mega-chronologies and would love feed back on them.
Thanks in advance
