HISTORY

A successful Metropolis botanist, Phil Sylvian worked with renowned colleagues such as Jason Woodrue, Alec and Linda Holland, Pamela Isley, and his own student, Susan Linden, with whom he fell in love. However, Susan married Carl Thorne, who, upon her finding out that he was a criminal, killed her in cold blood.

Phil refused to let go of the love of his life, and used her genetic material to create a hybrid of plant and human - the Black Orchid (I). Possessing Susan's memories, Black Orchid stayed as the woman in Phil's life, all the while using her extraordinary abilities as a super-hero.

Years later, Thorne was released from prison and killed Phil in an act of revenge. Black Orchid was also killed about this time, but her consciousness survived to awake another of Phil's plant hybrids, who became the second Black Orchid.
