HISTORY
Chosen to be one of the two Green Lanterns to protect Space Sector 1417, Myrrt of C'ythonis was partnered with Soranik Natu of Korugar. Little is known of the early life of Myrrt, save that is father was a soldier in days past, and it appears Myrrt was an only child.
When a series of murders across Space Sector 1417 claimed the lives of famed heroes on a dozen different planets, the pair ran a predictor based on the victims' character profiles. The predictor was highly accurate as it selected Ragnar and Stentar, warrior princes of Betrassus as the next likely targets. The lanterns were making their way to the planet when the princes were attacked.
They were under siege by Maltusian battlemechs and Stentar died in the battle. Despite her medical prowess, Soranik Natu was unable to save the prince's life. She left the planet for Oa, as she believed her power ring was cursed. Myrrt was left behind with Prince Ragnar, who was quite devoted to the Green Lantern Corps, much to the consternation of the rest of the royal family. More than anything in the universe, Ragnar wished to be a Green Lantern.
Oddly, Ragnar seemed more focused on the appearance of the Green Lanterns than the death of his brother. He offered Green Lantern Myrrt a drink just before the battlemechs returned to renew their attack. Myrrt found himself overwhelmed and repeatedly tried to call for help from Soranik Natu, to no avail. Intense fear disrupted the power ring's survival override circuitry and he was slain by the battlemechs.
After performing an autopsy, Soranik Natu discovered Myrrt had been poisoned. Short-lived microorganisms in Myrrt's drink had attacked his brain's amygdala, inducing fear. Further investigation by Guy Gardner also confirmed that Ragnar was the murderer. Though diplomatic immunity prevented the Green Lantern Corps from pressing charges against Ragnar, the law of Betrassus saw to it that Ragnar would pay for his crimes with his life. Before Ragnar was executed he learned his sister Iolande would be the new Green Lantern.
Soranik Natu visited Myrrt's parents on C'ythonis to give them the unfortunate news. Myrrt's mother took the news especially hard, not wanting to have anything to do with the Green Lantern Corps. Myrrt's father was more understanding, and accepted the power battery Natu offered as a reminder of his son's service in the Corps.
Feeling guilt over her perceived failures as a Green Lantern, Soranik Natu visited Mogo. The patients she had lost as a doctor on Korugar appeared before her, as did Myrrt. He did not blame Natu, he blamed himself for taking a drink while on duty, and thanked her for bringing the power battery to his parents. Whether this was an actual manifestation of Myrrt or just Soranik Natu's imagination has yet to be confirmed.
Myrrt was memorialized in the Crypts of the Green Lantern Corps on Oa.
