HISTORY

Green Lantern Lodar Monak was returning from a visit to Oa to seek approval from the Guardians of the Universe to train his son as his successor. He returned to see a Z'nang armada attacking his homeworld. The Z'nang considered the Green Lantern of Arden to be a threat that needed to be eliminated before they could begin to conquer the galaxy.

The robot warriors drew out the Green Lantern by attacking the farm his wife and son lived on. By defending a single piece of ground, he had become an easy target for a Z'nang star cruiser. He was blasted by a yellow energy ray, and his ring was rendered momentarily powerless. The Green Lantern was then easy prey for the ground robots who mortally wounded him. Rushing out to aid Monak, Lodar's wife was killed. In his last moments of life, Lodar Monak passed his ring on to his son.

The new Green Lantern of Arden, Meeno Monak, flew to the retreating Z'nang star cruisers. Their mission to eliminate Lodar Monak completed, they were returning to their homeworld. Meeno attacked the starships, destroying the robot drones. Having destroyed their target, the Z'nang craft had not been programmed to respond to other threats. Meeno Monak used his power ring to discover the robot's world of origin, Z'nang. He discovered that his father had been forbidden to interfer with the internal affairs of the Z'nang on their homeworld. Enraged, Meeno went off to seek vengence on the Z'nang.

He was confronted by a projection of a Guardian, who warned him away from Z'nang. Meeno paid the Guardian no mind, and went on to attack Z'nang. The Guardians then contacted a trio of Green Lanterns to stop Meeno from destroying a world.

On Z'nang, Meeno was confronted by more war-bots than he could hope to handle. He seized upon the idea of smashing a comet into the planet, destroying the robots. The Guardian was appalled at Meeno's course of action. He showed the young Green Lantern the innocent people on Z'nang that would be killed by the comet. Realizing he was about to commit a worse crime than the Z'nang had, Meeno attempted to redirect the comet. In his confusion, a Z'nang war-bot fired on him, greviously wounding him. Meeno smashed the war-bot before returning his attention to the comet.

He diverted the comet, but died during his actions. The trio of Green Lanterns had arrived too late. The three had wished to seek vengence on the world below, but were ordered not to by the Guardians. They were ordered to bring Monak's body to Oa. Meeno's ring left his finger, to find a successor.

On Z'nang, the rulers rejoiced in their apparent victory but in a quiet prison cell on Z'nang, the ring found Remnant Nod, a man believing in the cause of freedom and justice. A political prisoner, locked away by the totalitarian rulers. This was the one man who could inspire the downtrodden against their cruel overlords. It was this man who became the new Green Lantern of Z'nang. - Green Lantern Vol. 2 #170

Meeno Monak is memorialized in the Crypts of the Green Lantern Corps on Oa.
