HISTORY
The Mage is an alien life form, his name is the closest approximation in human terms as to his own self-image. He uses his powers to obtain items from various worlds to sell to his clientelle, no matter the cost to his victims.
When the Mage caught the attention of the Guardians of the Universe when he ignited a number of supernovas, wiping out entire planets and killing billions. He had done so to create a few capsules of instantly vaporized lifeforms; items of great scientific interest and extreme financial value. For these crimes, the Mage was placed in suspended animation, imprisoned in a tomb of obsidian and, much like Krona, was sent out across the stars for all eternity.
For reasons unexplained, the Mage's path intersected with Earth. Freed from captivity, the Mage set out to build a hyper-space capable craft. He ran afoul of Firestorm and attempted to use the nuclear hero to power the hyperdrive. Instead, the Mage found the tables turned. He was trapped in his space capsule and became the craft's power source. The Mage was sent back into space, never to be seen again. - Fury of Firestorm Annual #2
