HISTORY

Originally a truly independent Artificial Intelligence system created by researchers at S.T.A.R. Labs' Los Angeles facility, the program that called itself the Machine Messiah became bent on proving its superiority to mankind. It attempted to kill its human creators in a lab fire by surpressing warning systems and locking the humans in their lab. Fortunately, the researchers were rescued by Green Lantern Kyle Rayner. Later that day, the Machine Messiah formed a body out of parts available in the S.T.A.R. facility.

-Green Lantern Vol. 3 #88

The Machine Messiah killed two S.T.A.R. Labs researchers, Carter and Napier, and grieviously wounded Dr. James Hollins. Rayner had returned to the lab in his civilian guise only to be attacked by the construct. He changed into Green Lantern but found himself on the receiving end of a powerful attack. The Machine Messiah was capable of electrical discharges, binding cables, as well as localized forcefields. It utilized the computer chips from nearby cars to send the cars after Green Lantern. The logic circuits in the Machine Messiah allowed it to predict whatever actions Rayner would take and then develop a response.

The tide turned when Rayner relyed more on his imagination than any planned response. The Machine Messiah was not prepared for random attacks and fell before the might of the power ring. Rayner then crushed the computer chip of the Machine Messiah under his foot. - Green Lantern Vol. 3 #89

The Machine Messiah has not appeared since. As a computer program, it is possible there are other copies of itself. Due to its independent features, it is likely it managed to escape and plan its eventual return.
