HISTORY
Janel was the President of Selsia VI, a world in Sector 1634. After the loss of their Sector's Green Lantern, the peace they had shared for generations withered until they were locked into war with neighboring planet Selsia V. This inter-system war was now threatening to expand out into the galaxy and caught the attention of Priest, a former Green Lantern.
- Action Comics Weekly #623-625
Their worlds were to sign a treaty, but the meeting was hostile and teetering towards outright violence. It was at that moment that Green Lantern Hal Jordan of Earth revealed his presence. He had been sent on a mission from Priest and forced the two sides to sign the treaty. He left thinking the matter resolved, but had only given the two warring planets a mutual foe. The leaders of each planet swore revenge on the interfering ring wielder and agreed to pool their worlds' technologies into creating an ultimate weapon. - Action Comics Weekly #625
The union of their technology created the Seeker, a robot whose sole purpose was to seek out and destroy Green Lantern. Primary focus directive programming had been left up to Janel who made their creation a merciless killing machine. Unbeknownst to Hedron, Janel had ordered his scientists to create a second Seeker, improving on the first. Janel had planned to use the Seeker II to protect him if Green Lantern made it to Selsia VI and then kill Hedron.
Learning of the Seeker's destruction of a space station, Hedron demanded Janel recall the Seeker. Knowing that if he were to set foot on Janel's world it would mean almost certain death, for the good of the universe Hedron believed he had no other choice.
The Seeker found its target in deep space as an alien creature identified itself as the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814. Once its quarry had been captured, the Seeker played a recorded message from Janel who revealed the creation of Seeker was to destroy Green Lantern for his interference. In an attempt to destroy Green Lantern, the Seeker fired a massive cannon at the ring wielder. The blast missed its target, destroying the moon of Selsia VI. The debris rained down on Janel's homeworld.
Shocked that Janel had allowed the destructive force of the Seeker to go unchecked, Hedron ordered Janel to recall the Seeker or his forces would invade Janel's world. Tired of hearing his old enemy's lecturing, Janel threw him into a room with Seeker II which killed him.
When Green Lantern reached Janel's headquarters, the leader of Selsia VI unleashed Seeker II. While the second Seeker would have surpassed the first it never got the chance as the first reached into the building and crushed it, before it was able to adapt and evolve a defense. The first Seeker then questioned Janel for the location of Green Lantern. Without an answer for his creation, Janel was killed by the Seeker.
Green Lantern was not faring well against the Seeker as he had been worn down while the automaton had grown stronger. As Janel's recorded message played, Priest arrived to advise Jordan to give up his power ring which would mean Green Lantern no longer existed. Deprived of a target, the Seeker shut itself off. -Green Lantern Special #2
