HISTORY
Leaving his homeworld of H'lven, the power hungry Doctor Ub'x raised a mighty space armada which enabled him to conquer half his galaxy. He then returned to H'lven to conquer his homeworld as well with his allies the Crabsters. The H'lvenites were a peaceful, arboreal race, Ub'x believed it would be an easy victory, especially after his armada killed the B'rr, the Green Lantern of Sector 1014.
The Crabsters, the most relentless beings in Dr. Ub'x's empire, cut down any resistance offered. H'lven was claimed by nightfall. The few surviving resistance fighters were brought before Ub'x. A lone monk, Ch'p, was sentenced to death for resisting the invasion.
Ch'p was thrown into a prison cell to await his death the next day. Unbeknownst to Doctor Ub'x, Ch'p was visited by one of the Guardians of the Universe and given the power ring of the Green Lantern Corps. Wielding the mighty power ring, Ch'p was able to uproot the Crabsters and send even Doctor Ub'x into retreat. Ub'x swore revenge against the new Green Lantern, recognizing the threat the emerald power represented.
Doctor Ub'x would return to H'lven again and again to resume their conflict. Though the Green Lantern defeated him at every turn, Ub'x was testing the ring and his foe's ability to use it.
His study of the Green Lantern eventually led him to discover Ch'p's secret identity. Doctor Ub'x could now strike at Green Lantern by using Ch'p's girlfriend, M'nn'e as bait for a trap. Doctor Ub'x brought M'nn'e to his burrow beneath the briar patch where he dunked her in a pot of pluper-hollen honey and placed her under the guard of the Terrible B'Gul Bears. When the Green Lantern arrived, Ub'x ordered him to give up the power ring or M'nn'e would be turned over to the B'Gul Bears.
The Green Lantern complied and the ring was placed in a stasis centrex, making it impossible for the Green Lantern to control it. Ub'x did not count on Green Lantern's foresight as he was caught in an emerald nutcracker. Prior to entering Ub'x's lair, the Green Lantern had ordered the ring to wait a short time then capture Ub'x. The Green Lantern retained control of the emerald energy and would not release Ub'x until M'nn'e was freed.
Undaunted, Doctor Ub'x realized he needed the power to match Green Lantern's emerald energy. He retreated to his bunker on Beaver Island, a bunker guarded from the air by Chick Fury and his Eagle Scouts in the air, Battle Beaver and his boys on the perimeter and the Mole Patrol in the tunnels beneath the island. Working in solitude, Ub'x tried science and then sorcery to create the "Sucker Stick," a mind-directed energy weapon which made Ub'x the only sentient in the universe to learn all about the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps. More importantly, Ub'x learned the Crisis was upon the multiverse.
Doctor Ub'x had only instants to protect himself as the power of the Crisis washed over him, threatening to wipe him from existence. He held the Sucker Stick fast as a new reality configured itself. The Crisis had changed the entire history of Space Sector 1014, erasing Doctor Ub'x's power base. Trying to stabilize himself, Ub'x only existed as energy. Once he realized he was still alive, Doctor Ub'x searched out Ch'p of H'lven. - Green Lantern Corps Vol. 1 #203
Following the Crisis, the Guardians left the new universe with their Zamaron mates. Ch'p was one of seven ring wielders that chose to relocate to a world in Space Sector 2814 and become the Green Lantern Corps of Earth. - Green Lantern Vol. 2 #200, Green Lantern Corps #201, 203
Arriving on Earth ahead of Ch'p, Ub'x scanned the world until he found a criminal that had participated in the Crisis, Doctor Polaris. His energy form could not make contact with the villain so Ub'x created a form based on Polaris' appearance and dubbed himself Polestar. The stress of holding himself together in the new reality prevented him from uttering a sound. "Polestar" needed to write his story for Polaris and the two agreed to work together to rid Earth of the Green Lanterns. Doctor Polaris had gathered two other villains, Dropded and Whiteout to join in his cause.
Still needing more power before they confronted the seven Green Lanterns, Doctor Polaris arranged a meeting with Sonar. The Modoran Master of Sound had taken allies too, the villains Throttle and Blindside.
It was not hard to find the ring wielders as they had been building a headquarters in Southern California, the Green Lantern Corps Citadel was based outside of Los Angeles. After a skirmish with the Green Lanterns, the villains escaped and Polestar blew apart. - Green Lantern Corps #201
Doctor Ub'x took a new form, Truk, to battle Green Lanterns Kilowog, Salakk and John Stewart. "Truk" possessed the ability to build up momentum and use "his" mass to crush anything in "his" path. At the direction of Doctor Polaris, Truk, Whiteout and Dropded made a failed attempt to draft Hector Hammond into their cause. In this confrontation the villains forced the Green Lanterns to retreat.
Following the destruction of the Truk form, Ub'x took a third form, this time female, as Malignon. This form had the ability to speak and possessed the ability to radiate intense heat. Both Doctor Polaris and Sonar led their villain teams in the attack on the seven Green Lanterns, resulting in the defeat of all the ring wielders. Malignon was able to change form to that of Doctor Ub'x. - Green Lantern Corps #202 - 203
Doctor Polaris' claim of victory over the Green Lanterns was becoming an irritant to Doctor Ub'x. The monk turned his Sucker Stick on the magnetic villain, placing him in stasis as he had done to the seven ring wielders.
He told the gathered villains his story and his intent to finally resume his galactic conquests by ruling Earth. At this, Sonar turned on him but the Master of Sound was no match for the Sucker Stick.
Savoring his triumph, Doctor Ub'x watched as the helpless Ch'p squirmed, calling out in his sleep for his lost life on H'lven. Ub'x realized the Green Lantern had seen the end of the universe, and was one of the last ties to his old life. If he were to kill Ch'p, there would be no one else that remembered his life from before that moment. He would be alone in the universe. Ub'x's willpower faltered for a moment, allowing the Green Lanterns to wake and attack the villains.
Doctor Polaris, Sonar and their cohorts made a hasty escape in the confusion. Without the willpower to kill Ch'p, Doctor Ub'x lost control of the power that kept him alive during the Crisis, the wild energy tore at his body. Ironically, it was the actions of Ch'p that saved him from death. Each realized they were all they had left of H'lven before the reality-changing Crisis. The two called a truce, and became friends. - Green Lantern Corps #203
Later, Ch'p took Doctor Ub'x to Africa to work on evolving the local wildlife to H'lven intelligence so the two would not be so alone on Earth. Ub'x chose Africa as he had learned mammalian evolution began there when he was scanning minds to find Doctor Polaris. - Green Lantern Corps #204
Following a Presidential order banning all super-hero activity, the Green Lanterns left the United States for a short period and visited Doctor Ub'x's evolutionary experimental station in Africa. He was excited over the prospects of his preliminary work and eager to share the results. Though their relationship with the former villain was no longer hostile, a number of Green Lanterns still did not trust Doctor Ub'x enough to allow him to be present during the charging of their power rings. - Green Lantern Corps #208
Some weeks later, Salakk and Ch'p visited again. Doctor Ub'x had made progress with his experiments on the indigenous mammals of Central Kenya but still had a long way to go. This was of little comfort to Ch'p who wished to return to H'lven and try to rebuild his life that was swept away by the Crisis, an idea Salakk and Ub'x tried to talk him out of when Salakk disappeared. - Green Lantern Corps #213
Traces of quarks and muons indicated Salakk had been carried forward in time to the Earth's 58th Century. Doctor Ub'x gladly used his Sucker Stick to help Ch'p journey through time to rescue their friend. Since the Crisis, even the mighty Sucker Stick had great difficulty traveling through the time stream, it was only combined with the power ring that the two monks had any success. - Green Lantern Corps Vol. 1 #213 - 214
Arriving in the 58th century, Ch'p and Ub'x met the B'rks, a group of monks that had evolved from Dr. Ub'x's experiments in the 20th century. The B'rks were at war with the "hummers" or humans of the 58th Century. Though they had tried for centuries to emulate the humans of the far future, the B'rks came to see they had as much right to the Earth as the humans did, perhaps even more right as the Solar Council of the 58th Century colonized every planet in the solar system and held thirty-six worlds. The B'rks started the war because the Solar Council would not grant them even a part of the Earth. Ch'p easily routed the aero-pursuit squadrons sent after the B'rks.
To the humans, the B'rks were the "Breakers," and considered terrorists. The B'rks used guerilla tactics for hit and run attacks, making up for their smaller, less powerful forces. To help defeat the Breakers, the Solar Council reached back into the 20th Century to take Green Lantern of Earth Hal Jordan and place him in the role of their Solar Director. This time, however, the Solar Council had miscalculated and taken Salakk into the future. The Slyggian Green Lantern had his memory replaced with the fictitious life of Pol Manning, the head of the Solar Council. The Solar Council used Pol Manning (Salakk) against this latest threat to their world's order.
Ch'p and Ub'x set out to find their friend, but as Pol Manning, Salakk was unwilling to listen to their protests. Doctor Ub'x's Sucker Stick had to join with Ch'p's power ring once again, this time to restore Salakk's memories. Salakk was so angered by the Solar Council's brainwashing of him he renounced them and joined the B'rks. - Green Lantern Corps #214
After Salakk had a chance to understand the situation he had found himself in, he tried to use his influence to find a mutually satisfactory solution to the problems between humans and B'rks. Ub'x and Ch'p joined the B'rks in the talks held in the Grand Gallery of Solar City. Salakk called upon Hal Jordan to join him in the future for his aid and advice.
The negotiations were moved to the forests inhabited by the B'rks. Jordan brought Arisia from the 20th Century as well to help insure the safety of both sides of the conflict. The B'rks and the Solar Council were both stubborn in their demands but might have come to a middle ground if not for Doctor Ub'x.
Ub'x convinced the B'rks that they should push on against their enemies, with weapons he would create for them. The forest was full of B'rk warriors who attacked the Solar Council and Green Lanterns. Ch'p was so caught up in finding monks like himself that he joined the B'rks and Ub'x, against his fellow Green Lanterns. Ch'p was able to persuade Ub'x to join him in a fight against two of the Green Lanterns, rather than having total war.
Salakk and Jordan focused their attack on Ub'x first, to remove the Sucker Stick from the conflict. They were able to defeat Doctor Ub'x and then Ch'p in the brief but difficult battle. The winning Green Lanterns decided the B'rks were to receive their own homeworld, from one of the thirty-six worlds held by the Solar Council. - Green Lantern Corps Vol. 1 #215
Salakk and Doctor Ub'x decided they would stay in the future while the Ch'p, Arisia, and Jordan returned to the past. Ub'x would live with the B'rks on their new world while Salakk would live on Earth with Iona Vane. Years later, Salakk would return to the 20th Century as well. Doctor Ub'x has not been seen since. - Green Lantern Corps #215, #222- #223
