HISTORY

Dob Zagil's story was told to neophyte Green Lanterns by their trainer, Kilowog of Bolovax Vik.

After the super powered Lin Canar of Fluvian turned down an alien Green Lantern's offer to wield a power ring, Dob Zagil, a teacher, took up the responsibilities of a Green Lantern. Zagil was trained by the alien, and was soon left to protect Fluvian from crime and natural disasters.

Although Dob Zagil was a dedicated Green Lantern, he could not be everywhere at once to wipe out crime. On Fluvian, there were two sentient races were based on vegetable matter. The O'Lav lived in shallow waters and spend much of their time in search of food and shelter. Dob Zagil and Lin Canar's race, the E'Fal lived in the deep waters where food and building material was plentiful.

It appeared to Dob Zagil that crimes were being committed by the less fortunate O'Lav species, against the E'Fal. He decided to fight the criminals where they lived, namely in the O'Lav communities. His actions appeared to be working, crime became non-existant, the O'Lav were terrified of the Green Lantern. This formed a political movement among the grateful E'Fal.

Impressed, Lin Canar visited the O'Lav for the first time. He was shocked to discover the Green Lantern was terrorizing innocent and guilty alike. After confronting Dob Zagil, the two were soon fighting. Lin Canar, despite his super strength, was no match for the power ring. The scientist fled, with the Green Lantern in pursuit. He tricked Dob Zagil into destroying his lab which duplicated the accident that gave Canar his powers.

Lin Canar woke first, he realized he had lost his super powers in the explosion. He quickly swam to Zagil who was dazed by the blast and took the power ring. Canar realized his world needed a Green Lantern to remind people there was another way to solve their poblems. Since the alien had originally chosen him, Lin Canar would be the new Green Lantern of Fluvian. - Green Lantern Corps Quarterly #3

It has recently been reported that Dob Zagil was memorialized in the Crypts of the Green Lantern Corps on Oa. The circumstances regarding his death have not been revealed.
