HISTORY

Black Adam was gifted with powers by the wizard Shazam many centuries ago, but, following the tragic death of his wife and children, turned against his benefactor, becoming a terrible force for evil.

In more recent years, he has been a thorn in the side of Captain Marvel, whose parents he killed while the Captain's alter ego, Billy Batson, was very young. He managed to reform, but a malignant brain tumour affected his psyche and turned him evil once more, after which he battled the JSA, who had to use a combination of time travel and sorcery to defeat him before he was incarcerated by the Department of Extra-Normal Operations. He was busted from the D.E.O. by Klarion, the Witch Boy and was later approached by Johnny Sorrow, who offered to remove his brain tumour if Adam would pledge servitude to him. However, the good side of his personality was by then in control and he decided to work from inside the Injustice Society to help the JSA by summoning the Spectre to their aid. After this, he asked to join the JSA, but was refused by the chairman, although he was permitted to accompany the team on their mission to Thanagar and was then admitted to the Society on a probationary basis.

While serving with them, he grew to despise their methods, believing they were too soft on the criminals they faced. In time, he led a faction of former JSA allies to break away from the group, and with them he invaded the country of Kahndaq, the land of his birth, and liberated the people from an oppressive dictatorship. The JSA confronted him about this, but they have agreed to allow him to remain there, with former JSA allies Atom Smasher and Northwind at his side.

Recently, Black Adam has joined the Society, an association of many different villains. He serves on the main council of the Society, alongside others with whom he would normally disagree on many issues.
