Synopsis: - Escaped convict Luke Hames holds his half-brother hostage along with a group of children, but is attacked by the alien Gemir, who drains the spinal fluid of both men. They awaken changed. Hames has a gift for healing, and has come to see that his life thus far has been squandered; his half-brother, priest Perry Dennison, has seen true evil for the first time and decides that this is the master he wishes to follow from now on. Dennison and Hames split up when Dennison discovers that he can cause death and decay, and that he likes doing so. He heads to Gotham City, wishing to kill the saintly Bishop Manwell, who is visiting the city, but he is prevented by his brother and the Batman. When Dennison, now calling himself Cardinal Sin, lunges at Batman, Hames jumps in and the two's powers short each other out. Hames is left in a coma, and Dennison is now powerless, but hungry for more.
