Synopsis:

Batman interrupts a drug shipment where an elder criminal takes the fall for his son Jack. The next day, Bruce Wayne visits Lexcorp headquarters in Metropolis and also catches up with Clark Kent. On his return to Gotham City, Wayne is told by his lawyer Rachel Green that his plan to adopt Dick Grayson has been contested by one Yoska Graesinska who claims to be Grayson's paternal grandfather, though Dick has never heard of him. This man, a Romany of course, insists on getting to know Dick better.
Jack and Nicclai Inzerillos threaten the judge for their father's trial, but are interrupted first by the judge's son Mitchell and then the Batman. The next day, Graesinka and Wayne properly meet, and Graesinka says that he knows all about the secret...

The main story takes place shortly before Dick became Robin and the flashback on the day of Bruce's first birthday following the death of his parents.

Synopsis:

Dick Grayson tries to prove to the Batman that he is ready to join him on his crusade against crime, demonstrating the effects of his training. Batman promises Dick that he will never leave him, and says that each needs the other equally. Batman also looks back to a difficult time in his own childhood.
