HISTORY

Years ago, Ferris Aircraft hired a circus troupe to entertain its employees. The clown, Otto Fisher, was madly in love with Elke Hensen, one of the world's greatest high-wire performers. Fisher invented magnetic motors that let him "ride" the magnetic lines surrounding the earth. He planned to show Hensen his creation that night, thinking it would win her love.

Tragedy struck during the performance. Elke Hensen was killed when a bolt of lightning tore through the tent. Fisher wept over his love, he blamed the Ferrises for what had happened and swore revenge against them.

Fisher kept his vow. Three years after the accident, he returned as the Aerialist. Fisher destroyed an experimental VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft test piloted by Hal Jordan. In his civilian alter-ego, the Green Lantern of Earth ejected from the aircraft to preserve his secret identity. The Aerialist flipped through the sky, magnetic force kept him aloft. He gave a warning to the downed test pilot. The Ferris family would now pay for the death of Elke Hensen.

Jordan was bruised in his landing because he had willed the ring not to help him. In an ambulance, Jordan and Carol Ferris spoke of Fisher's story. Eddie Harman would take over test piloting while Jordan recuperated at home.

The next day, testing resumed on the VTOL. Jordan was there as Green Lantern. He protected the aircraft from the Aerialist, but was bombarded by magnetic waves. Green Lantern escaped the magnetic field, but was unprepared for the next attack. Jordan could not see through his mask and he believed the Aerialist changed it to gold.

The magnetism in the mask allowed the Aerialist to control the electrical impulses of Green Lantern's brain. He led Green Lantern to his mountain retreat where he explained his plan. The emerald gladiator paced across the carpet, listening. Fisher would to use the ring wielder to exact his revenge on Ferris Aircraft. With Green Lantern's reputation for fighting on the side of justice, the world would realize Fisher was right. The Aerialist believed justice would be served, the Ferrises would be ruined for killing Elke Hensen.

Green Lantern had beaten the Aerialist at his own game. His pacing on the carpet was to build up a charge of static electricity to cause the mask to lose its grip. The Aerialist went down under a hail of punches from the emerald crusader.

Green Lantern recommended psychiatric help for Otto Fisher. The Aerialist's thinking was warped, by using Green Lantern he had thought it would excuse his actions. - Green Lantern Vol. 2 #35

The current whereabouts of Otto Fisher and the fate of his Aerialist inventions remain unknown.
