Synopsis: - Superman is finding it difficult to deal with the fact that Luthor has been voted President, and is particularly annoyed when he is forced to spend New Year's Eve with Lois' parents, particularly Sam, who is an ardent Luthor supporter. He later discovers that Luthor is using lead paint in the White House. He also discovers that Scorch somehow exists in this reality to prevent him from seeing inside; she creates unnatural flames, which are causing monumental problems for the Martian Manhunter. The two of them retreat and garb themselves with ice shields, but when they return, Scorch has disappeared.
- Superman briefly ducks home, where he discovers that Sam is winding up Jimmy and his girlfriend. Superman and the Martian Manhunter talk about what just happened to them. J'onn then asks Clark about his plans for New Year's Eve. When he is told that Clark is not planning to go home and spend it with his wife, he gets slightly cross and explains how his friend will later regret having a hole in his memory where he didn't spend the special evening with her.
- J'onn is then invited to spend the evening with Clark, Lois et al, in the identity of John Johnstone, who used to work at Clark's parents farm. They find chaos, as Sam has driven everyone to distraction - and to make things even worse, they discover that Sam has been asked to be Luthor's Secretary of Defense.
