HISTORY

When miscreant Joshua Clay was given the choice between prison and the military, he chose the latter, finding himself in the midst of the Vietnam conflict. Here he manifested the meta-human ability to generate powerful energy blasts from his hands, and deserted. He was still on the run when Celsius persuaded him to join the second incarnation of the Doom Patrol as Tempest. Before long he realized that he really didn't much enjoy being a costumed hero, and chose to help the group behind the scenes as the team's physician. Joshua was later murdered by the temporarily insane Chief (Niles Caulder), leader of the Doom Patrol.

BLACK LANTERN: TEMPEST

During the event known as the Blackest Night, a black ring descended upon the remains of Joshua Clay, downloaded all of his memories and created a duplicate of his body that rose from the grave as a member of the Black Lantern Corps.
